Our Story
Back in 1966, when fiberglass was new and nobody wore sunscreen, a few spirited Fisherman’s Village boaters decided to form a “yacht club” — even though none of their boats were longer than a station wagon. They gathered on the dock with cigars, ambition, and more rum than reason.
The plan was to name it The Sabal Club, after the palms that swayed overhead. But sometime between the paperwork and the punch, the “a” became an “e,” and nobody noticed until the sign showed up. Rather than admit the mistake, they declared it fate — and The Sable Club was born.
Soon after, a sleek, mischievous creature appeared beneath the docks, socializing freely, sampling bait trays, and charming the members. The founders took it as a sign: every good club needs a spirit — preferably one that likes rum.
Today, The Sable Club honors that legend with two lively clubhouses, dockage for boats under 25’, and a membership that believes every tide deserves a toast!
